If you want to make your mark on the search engine giant in the coming year? We’ve got you covered with 10 simple detailed SEO steps to rank higher in Google in 2019:
1. Find your keywords
Your first step whenever you’re looking at ranking in Google and using/abusing SEO is to get a grasp of what keywords you need. There’s plenty of tools that’ll help you with this – our personal favorite is AHREFS or MOZ and will equip you with search results, keywords, how difficult they will be to rank for and so many other little pieces of information to boost your SEO capabilities!
2. Write good, quality content
This one speaks for itself. Google, just like me and you, really appreciates good quality, well-written content.
Anything over 300 words is perfect and will get the algorithms looking and appreciating.
Making sure that your work is legible and easy to read helps too, using a Flesch Reading Ease test (Free Tool here) is a great way to make sure you’re onto a winner.
Don’t forget to add your specific keywords in the content, so you would get some us of it as well. For us it would be keywords like – Digital Marketing London, Online Advertisement Specialist etc. (There was no any other way to add in to this blog post 😉 )
3. Use images
A picture says a thousands words. Great for readers, but not so much for Google. However, going into the image settings and including an alt description (ALT TAG) of what the image is – utilising keywords – will let Google know what’s in the picture. Great for image searches to drive more traffic. Very good tool for creating your visual content – CANVA.
4. Make lists
Making bullet-pointed lists is again great for readers, but it’s also great for Google.
- Breaking down heavier points into bullet-points or –
- numbered lists lets your audience find what they’re after much quicker –
- which makes it an optimal search result.
Lists are great – use them!
5. Utilise headings
Splitting your content down into bite-size chunks will help your readability score. Making sure your content has less than 300 words per subheading is a great way to categorise ideas and make sure everything is easy to find. That’s the aim of the game in SEO.
6. Get your titles right
Using the right title is the difference between SEO traffic and hanging around on page 8 with a selection of cobwebs. If you’re serious about SEO, it’s worth spending time on titles – like a big juicy worm on the end of a hook to dangle on the search results.
7. Don’t forget a good meta-description
Similar to the title, a good meta-description is vital for turning impressions into traffic and highlighting keywords in this description is imperative. Use your keywords in the meta for higher rankings and increased interest to your pages.
8. Build links from trusted sites (quality backlinks)
Building links from other sites is the single most important factor in moving your site up the rankings. It’s like Tripadvisor, but for Google. If koolkyle78 says that the steak at La Vaca was amazing and you read it, you’re more likely to head there and try it out. Google doesn’t have Tripadvisor – it can see who’s linking to your pages though. The bigger the site linking, the more that Google will trust them and thus the more they’ll trust you. It’s not what you know – it’s who you know. Great tool to see your website backlinks – SMALL SEO TOOLS.
9. Interlink pages on your own site
Linking on your own site is another great way to make sure that everything is found by Google. When crawling, you want to be able to get everywhere on your site from everywhere. As in – if I’m on the ‘About Us’ page, I want to be able to click around and eventually find a blog post from 2009. It all helps create links and Google eats that all up. 10. Keep an eye on it
Don’t forget to keep an eye on it, make sure to use analytics to see where your site is in the rankings and why. Competitors will come and go, but using analytical tools – you can always see what you and your competitors can be doing better! Check regularly the optimisation level of your website with SEO tool.
